Introduction to Luoyang

Luoyang is one of the first groups announced to be the historic and cultural famous city and well-known ancient capital in China. It is located in the west of Henan Province, at the east section of Eurasia Continental Bridge, crossing the middle reaches of Yellow River, with Songyue to its east, Yaohan to its west, Funiu to its south and Yellow River to its north. Luoyang is named after its location, for it is located at the yang bank (the bank exposed to the sun) of Luo River. It has the history as long as 5,000 years approximately.
Luoyang was crowned as the center of country in the ancient times, governing one city and eight counties, namely, Yanshi, Mengjin, Xin¡¯an, Luoning, Yiyang, Yichuan, Song County, Luanchuan and Ruyang, and six urban districts, namely, Jianxi, Xigong, Laocheng, Chanhe, Luolong and Jili. It totally occupies an area of 15,208.6 km2, with 554 km2 of urban area. It has the total population of 6,460,000, including 1,510,000 city dwellers. In recent years, it was selected the ¡°China Outstanding Tourism City¡±, ¡°National Garden City¡±, ¡°Advanced City for the Construction of National Civilized City¡±, ¡°Model Human Habitat Environment in China¡±, ¡°National Model City for Supporting the Army and the Families of Soldiers¡±, and ¡°National Sanitary City¡±, etc.
